Early Winter's Morning

Once upon a time ago, there came an early winter’s snow.  I was just a girl, you know, on that early winter’s morning.

When I heard the schools were closed, I headed out to play, with no idea of what would be on that early winter’s morning.

The new kid headed up the road, as I made angels in the snow.  Strange to see him, all alone on that early winter’s morning.

Pulling his sled up the hill, I walked along behind him.  We reached the top.  He said, “Get on.”  On that early winter’s morning.

As we sped down the hill, the wind chilled my nose, it all was so exciting.  With my arms round his waist, I held on so tight it felt like we were flying, flying.

We reached the bottom and you know, he said, “Let’s have another go.”  Laughing, as we trudged up hill on that early winter’s morning.

Then, when we made it to the top, I heard someone behind me.  I looked to see, who could it be, on that early winter’s morning.

My brothers and friends, were ambushing us, with snowballs fast as lightening.  The new kid said, “Quick, jump on my sled” as I did, they ran behind me, behind me.

Fast as we could we sledded down, with snowballs flying all around.  Missing us and hitting ground on that early winter’s morning.

Until one bruised me on the cheek.   It hit me with a thwack!   He kissed me as he brushed my cheek on that early winter’s morning.

My first kiss on that early winter’s morning.
