Clarice

She’s looking out through her dark sunken eyes. They did not suspect it but she’s not surprised.   She sees that they are just caught in a dream.  They hardly take notice of strange, sad, Clarice.  She’s softly spoken, except for today.  Told them what she knew, they laughed it away.  Nobody saw it the way that she did.  No one respecting the view of a kid. She told them.  She told them.  She used all her words. When no one would listen, she thought the fault hers.  The fault line keeps growing but nobody sees.  Nobody has eyes, the same as Clarice.

Clarice is crying, what more could she do And what would you do there, inside of her shoes.  She tried to stop it before it could be but no one would listen to strange, sad, Clarice.  She told them.  She told them.  She used all her words.  When no one would listen, she thought the fault hers.  The fault line keeps growing but nobody sees. Nobody has eyes, the same as Clarice.

She covers her mouth so they don’t hear her screams.  She closes her eyes and she says what she sees.  Visions of futures, the ones that will be if no one heeds warnings from strange, sad, Clarice.  She told them.  She told them.  She used all her words.  When no one would listen, she thought the fault hers. The fault line keeps growing but nobody sees. Nobody has eyes, the same as Clarice.

Hush, hush, go back to sleep just like the others, don’t speak of Clarice.  Hush, hush, don’t say what you see or suffer the fate of strange, sad, Clarice.
